Pouring a glass of Champagne back into the bottle is a big no-no, especially in business class.
A flight attendant has been caught pouring what seems to be a glass of sparkling wine back into the bottle.
A passenger filmed the moment as he was settling into his business class seat on board the Emirates flight to Dubai.
“I accidentally filmed this video, and didn’t even notice this moment at the time, pouring unfinished champagne back into the bottle,” Russian passenger Yevgeny Kayumov said.
“Is that normal practice Emirates?” he asked the airline on Instagram.
A spokesperson told The Telegraph that the airline was investigating the incident.
“Emirates always strives to provide the top quality service. Actions recorded on this video do not comply with our quality standards. We are currently investigating the incident.”
People commenting on the video suggested the flight attendant was saving it for other passengers, with some adding that she may have been stealing.
A former flight attendant said she doubted the worker was going to serve it to other customers, citing the fact she was doing it in a public place.
As for stealing? She says Emirates are notoriously strict so it seems unlikely.
“I know people who were fired for drinking on board and you’re not allowed to take booze off at some airlines because it’s technically stealing.”
An anonymous cabin crew columnist told The Independent that he thought she was likely conserving it.
“Until airlines can adequately stock their planes, flight attendants will always look for ways to conserve popular items that often run out to avoid making excuses about why they are out.
“Frontline employees bear the brunt of many angry customer reactions, and if saving a few glasses of bubbly makes the 16-hour flight go smoother, the airline shouldn’t expect anything less.”
He disagreed with another claim that workers were not allowed to pour liquids out while they’re on the ground.
“We can’t pour hot liquids out when we are parked at the gate, but I get rid of them by putting it in the toilet and flushing.”
