What is the aim of a travel? Some people say that they travel to escape, not from a country but from some memory. I want to say the best travel is going to an unfamiliar city and finding something that touches me. Hangzhou is exactly such a city that worths wasting time there. Its history, water and peace and many other unique things all deserve our paying a visit.
Hangzhou has a long history as mankind originally established a civilization over 4700 years ago. Hangzhou is one of the seven ancient capitals of China. It was the capital of the Wuyue Kingdom from 907 to 978 during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period. After about 60 years in 1132, Hangzhou was chosen as the new capital of the Southern Song dynasty.
What’s more, two Chinese most famous poets Bai Juyi and Su Shi are appointed governors of Hangzhou. They used their leisure time to enjoy the beauty of Hangzhou, leaving many famous poems for their descendants. Through construction, West Lake was made a beautiful landmark. Walking in the city and imaging our ancestors once walked on the same path, it impresses me a lot ,especially on a rainy afternoon.
To enjoy its history, I chose Longmen Old Town which is said to be the hometown of Sun Quan, a Chinese emperor. There are extremely rare and most completely preserved ancient buildings of Ming and Qing dynasties in the town. What an unforgettable experience to feel the unique folk custom of Jiangnan, taste the strong sun culture which has developed thousands of years, and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery of Longmen mountain.
