Would you spend a night in this lighthouse in Iceland?

The Þrídrangar lighthouse is on an island that translates to “High Rock” in English.

Set on a cliff high above Iceland’s south coast, you’ll need wings to go to this lighthouse.

Built in 1939, the only access to the Þrídrangar lighthouse is by helicopter. Although it seems like the perfect place to get away from it all, this lighthouse is uninhabitable.

However, in July 2015, six workmen were flown by helicopter to carry out maintenance work on the lighthouse. They filmed this video of the approach which encapsulates the sheer remoteness of this building.

Located near the Vestmannaeyjar islands, the lighthouse sits on the highest of the three rocks, which is called Háidrangur, or High Rock in English.

The men spent the night on the island and said told the the National Broadcasting Service they even spotted killer whales in the water below.

Imgur user HimmelSpill posted this picture of the Þrídrangar lighthouse with the words “It is good to be an introvert in Iceland” and has been viewed more than one million times.
